Web Conference Basics

Web Conference Presentations

Some web conferencing products allow for the moderator to use the internet to display a presentation on the users screen.  Depending on the service provider, this might or might not be included with the cost of an audio conference call.  This form of web conference "lite" is best used when the moderator will be making a presentation and the document is in its final form.  Because the ability to make changes to the presentation is limited, this product should not be used when the moderator wants an interactive experience.

Collaboration

Web based conferencing is a revolutionary product that allows multiple participants to work on the same document at a time.  By allowing people to work together, collaboration services eliminate the need to send a document back and forth between individuals when they make changes.  By bringing everybody together on the same page, it allows users to reach a consensus faster and be more creative.  Features include document sharing and presentations, ability to mark up documents, whiteboards, chat and even desktop sharing.  By allowing interactivity, collaboration allows users to feel like they are in the same room, despite the physical separation.  Because it often makes sense to use this product with as few as two people (who would then be communicating via the telephone), the audio portion is priced separately and is not included in the cost of the product.
